Q: What motivated you to get involved as a mentor?
A: During my studies I especially enjoyed lectures by professors with experience in the industry, they gave me an idea of what life would be like after graduating. Because of this my career path became clearer with each lecture. I want to give the same opportunity to the younger generation, in hopes that their options become clearer as well.
Q: Which topics did you discuss most?
A: Is obtaining a doctorate after graduation worthwhile and how will it influence my future career options?
Which topics should I focus on in addition to my studies and in which ways can they be beneficial?
Q: Did you also learn something from your mentee?
A: Expanding your horizon is fun. It is wonderful to be reminded of the time just prior to graduation without being bothered by the stress coming with the uncertainty of what’s ahead. This allowed me to get a new perspective on my own experiences.
Q: What has been your most valuable experience as a mentor?
A: Making new contacts, being able to share your experience and staying in the loop at TU Berlin. Well, that’s three experiences but they are all equally valuable to me.
Q: What piece of advice would you give to new and first-time mentors?
A: Being open to your mentees questions and answering them to the best of your ability, as well as being open-minded in general.
